I am an incredibly visual person. When someone describes something to me, my mind instantly paints a vivid picture. I see every detail: vibrant colors, unique shapes, the clothing a person is wearing, the background scenery. It’s a full, moving picture. I have found this trait to be very useful when selling real estate.
Years ago I listed a log home with a large, finished, walk-out basement. Because the property was remote, high-dollar, and had moving parts a buyer’s agent might easily miss, I agreed to accompany all showings.
One day I met with an agent and their potential buyer, who happened to show dogs. I also show dogs, so this one was easy. I had already worked out this picture, and now I had the opportunity to walk someone through it. I laid out the entire basement. I showed them where plumbing was available for a dog bath, a room off to the side that would work for kenneling with easy access to the outdoors, and my vision for training space in an auxiliary building. By vividly describing these details, I helped the buyer see past the empty rooms and see the potential that was available to them.
What is your vision for your home? Our homes are so much more than just places where we lay our heads at night and store our stuff. It’s more than where we create memories with family and friends. For many of us, “home” is our comfort zone and our creative sanctuary. We need spaces that inspire us to come alive, rejuvenate, and refresh so we can go back out and tackle the world. An artist needs a room with northern light looking over a soothing view to inspire their aspirations. A maker may need a large basement or garage for a pottery or woodworking studio or a kitchen that inspires their inner chef. An athlete needs level land for soccer, dog agility, or other serious sports. Home is where we come alive. It gives us a place to rejuvenate and refresh so we can go back out and tackle the world.
During my meditation this morning (sunrise, coffee, and light reading), I asked myself a fundamental question: Why am I a Realtor? What is my ultimate goal when helping people? The simple answer is, “I want to help them buy or sell a home!” but it goes much deeper than that. I genuinely enjoy creating your unique idea of home. I enjoy going through a house and shaping its physical boundaries to match your vision. My ultimate goal is to learn what fuels your imagination, then figure out exactly how we can make the house in front of us work for your dream. This is why I continue to sell real estate. It’s more than selling a home. It’s finding the space for your possibilities.
